Products

Real margin per SKU after fees, returns, and marketing, with a clear Scale, Hold, or Fix call for each product.

Written by Amar Sujith

The Products page turns your catalog into decisions. It shows the true margin of each product after fees, returns, and allocated marketing cost, and then gives you a plain call on what to do about it. Instead of a revenue leaderboard, you get a profit-aware view of which SKUs deserve more budget and which are quietly losing money.

The action call

Every product carries an Action recommendation so you can act without reading the whole row:

  • SCALE. Healthy margin and demand. Put more behind it.

  • HOLD. Fine for now, no urgent action.

  • FIX. Losing money or at risk. Needs attention, for example a product at negative net profit.

Treat the action as a starting point, then open the row to see why.

Grouping and columns

Use Group by (for example Product) to set the level of analysis. The table carries the full economics per product.

How marketing is allocated to a product

Marketing cost is allocated to each product by revenue share: a SKU's marketing cost is proportional to its share of revenue. Shopshot does not claim to know which ad sold which unit, so it uses a transparent split rather than a guess dressed up as precision. See Attribution and acquisition cost (CAC).

Search, filter, export

Search by product name or SKU, click Filters to narrow the view, set a date range, and Export the table to CSV for merchandising reviews.

Common questions

A product shows an odd margin or a FIX flag. Why? Its costs may be incomplete, or it is genuinely losing money after discounts, COGS, shipping, fulfillment, and fees. Open the row and check COGS first.

Why is marketing split by revenue instead of by actual ad performance? Attributing individual ad spend to individual SKUs would be a guess. Revenue-share allocation is honest about what can be known.

A product I know sells well is marked HOLD, not SCALE. Why? High revenue is not high profit. If margin is thin after all-in costs, the action reflects the profit, not the sales.

Why is Marketing Cost blank for some products? No ad platform is connected, or the product had no attributable revenue share in the period.

Next step

The action calls are only as accurate as your COGS. If any product shows incomplete margin, finish product costs so Scale, Hold, and Fix reflect reality. → COGS · COGS: bundles and quantity-based costs
