Shopshot turns your Shopify sales into profit the moment you give it your costs. This is the one setup that makes every other number trustworthy, and it takes about 15 minutes. Do these five in order, and your Profit & Loss, Products, and Profit Leak Agent all become exact.

The five steps
Step | What to set | Why it matters |
1 | COGS for each SKU | The biggest cost, and the one Shopify does not know. Nothing profits-related is complete without it. |
2 | Shipping Costs | What you paid carriers. Configure at least one source so every order resolves a shipping cost. |
3 | Transaction Fees | Per-gateway payment fees so Gross Profit reflects what actually cleared. |
4 | Fulfillment (Handling) | Packaging and labor per order or per item. |
5 | Operating Expenses | Overhead like software, salaries, and rent, allocated daily. |
Do COGS first, and in bulk
COGS is the highest-impact input and usually the largest cost. Enter it first. The fastest path is a bulk import: download the template, fill in your costs, and upload. See Import COGS via CSV. If you sell bundles or tiered pricing, see COGS: bundles and quantity-based costs.
How to know you are done
You are complete when:
No SKU shows a missing-cost flag on the COGS tab.
Every order resolves a shipping cost (check the Shipping Cost Source field in Orders).
Your gateways are listed under Transaction Fees.
Your P&L shows non-zero Order-level Costs and Operating Expenses.
Profit Leak cards read HIGH confidence rather than MEDIUM.

Common questions
Do I have to finish all five before I see profit? No, but every gap makes Net Profit look higher than it is. Finish COGS at minimum, then the rest as soon as you can.
Which step should I never skip? COGS. Without it, margin and Profit Leak numbers are only estimates.
Can I import instead of typing? Yes for COGS and Operating Expenses. See the linked guides.
